Now the most valuable company in the world, Nvidia surpasses both Apple and Microsoft.

Less than two weeks after surpassing Apple's market capitalization following months of robust stock rises, chip designer and artificial intelligence behemoth Nvidia just barely exceeded Microsoft's market capitalization Tuesday to become the most valuable public company in the world.

Essential Information
Tuesday afternoon, shares of Nvidia rose by almost 3% to about $135.65, while Microsoft fell by a little bit to $447.58.

The stock performances increased Microsoft's market capitalization to $3.32 trillion and Nvidia's to $3.33 trillion.

Since the company split its shares recently, which reduced its price from $1,210 to roughly $120 per share, Nvidia's stock has increased by about 12%.

With a market capitalisation of $1.2 trillion at the start of the year, Nvidia was less valuable than half of Apple and Microsoft combined.

Significant figure 177%. That is the increase in market capitalization of Nvidia from the beginning of the year, when shares were trading at $48.17 (stock split adjusted).

FORBES EVALUATION
According to our estimation, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang is the 11th richest person on the planet, the highest position he has ever held on Forbes' real-time billionaires list.

Background Information
Amidst an artificial intelligence frenzy, Nvidia's CPUs and graphics processing units are becoming more and more important to rival tech firms like Microsoft, Meta, Amazon, and Alphabet. Bloomberg supply chain data estimates that Microsoft contributes 15% of Nvidia's revenue. CNBC stated, citing Mizuho Securities, that Nvidia controls between 70% and 95% of the AI chip industry. With a net income of $8.4 billion in its fiscal year 2023, Nvidia is showing little to no slowing down; in fact, analysts predict that in only four years, its net income will overtake Apple's.
